Aspen Airport Closure 2027: How to Get to Aspen and Snowmass
Updated October 30, 2026
Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) is scheduled to close at 11 p.m. on April 4, 2027, and reopen at 7 p.m. on November 19, 2027. The closure will affect all commercial and private flights while the airport undergoes major runway reconstruction and infrastructure improvements.
For visitors planning a trip to Aspen or Snowmass, this means finding another way to reach the resorts. The closure spans the final weeks of ski season, the entire summer, and much of the fall, affecting travelers who would normally fly directly into Aspen.

Fortunately, two practical alternatives exist: Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) and Denver International Airport (DEN). Eagle offers a much shorter drive to Aspen, while Denver provides more nonstop flights and potentially lower airfares. The right airport can significantly affect your overall travel time and costs.
Blue Sky Limo provides private airport transfers from both Eagle and Denver directly to Aspen and Snowmass, making it easy to arrange your ground transportation well before your trip.

Which Airport Is Best for Aspen During the 2027 Closure?
For most travelers, we recommend checking flights into Eagle Airport first. It’s the closest commercial airport to Aspen and Snowmass during the closure and can save several hours of driving compared with Denver.
However, Denver may be the better option if it offers a convenient nonstop flight, better departure times, or significantly lower airfare. The best choice ultimately depends on your complete journey, including flight connections, ground transportation costs, and travel time.
Eagle Airport: The Closest Alternative to Aspen and Snowmass
Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) is located in Gypsum, west of Vail. From the airport, the drive to Aspen follows I-70 west through scenic Glenwood Canyon, then heads south on Highway 82 into the Roaring Fork Valley.
Expect approximately two hours of driving to Aspen or Snowmass, depending on traffic, road conditions, and your final destination.
One of Eagle’s biggest advantages is avoiding the longer mountain drive from Denver, including the Eisenhower Tunnel and Vail Pass. This makes EGE particularly appealing for families traveling with children, visitors arriving after a long flight, and anyone planning a shorter getaway.
For guests flying into Eagle, Blue Sky Limo offers private car service from Eagle Airport to Aspen as well as direct transfers from Eagle Airport to Snowmass. Your driver takes you directly to your hotel, condo, or vacation rental without the additional stops associated with shared transportation.

The main consideration is flight availability. Eagle serves fewer destinations than Denver, and its airline schedules vary by season. Check service on both your arrival and departure dates. Depending on where you’re traveling from, you may need a connecting flight, which can reduce or eliminate the time saved on the road.
If you can find a convenient flight into Eagle, however, it’s generally our preferred airport for reaching Aspen and Snowmass during the closure.
Denver Airport: More Flights and Greater Flexibility
Denver International Airport (DEN) is the other major alternative for Aspen-bound travelers. As one of the country’s busiest airports, DEN offers an extensive network of nonstop flights, more departure times, and potentially lower airfares.
For travelers coming from cities without direct service to Eagle, flying nonstop into Denver may be more convenient than making a connection. Denver can also be a good choice for larger groups arriving from different cities who need to coordinate their travel plans.
The tradeoff is a considerably longer drive. Plan on about five hours from Denver Airport to Aspen or Snowmass, taking I-70 west through the mountains to Glenwood Springs, then Highway 82 into the Roaring Fork Valley. Heavy traffic, winter weather or road closures can extend that journey.
Despite the extra driving time, Denver can still be the better choice when flight schedules and airfare make the overall trip more convenient.
Blue Sky Limo provides private car service from Denver Airport to Aspen and Snowmass, with a vehicle reserved exclusively for your party. Instead of arranging transportation after landing, you can organize your airport pickup and the entire mountain transfer in advance.

Comparing Airport Transfer Costs: Eagle vs. Denver
Ground transportation is an important part of the decision, especially for families and groups traveling together.
| Airport | Drive to Aspen or Snowmass | Private SUV fare* | Main advantage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eagle County (EGE) | About 2 hours | From $725 one way | Shorter drive to the resort |
| Denver International (DEN) | About 5 hours | From $1,300 one way | More flights and departure options |
Blue Sky Limo’s starting fares, checked October 29, 2026, cover one Large SUV for up to four passengers. These are not guaranteed prices for 2027. Online reservations add a 10% fuel surcharge; other applicable charges may apply. We recommend requesting a complete quote for your travel dates before making your final airport decision. See our rates and booking conditions.
Drive times vary with traffic, weather and your lodging address, and exclude time collecting luggage and meeting your driver.
That’s a $575 difference each way, before additional charges, making Eagle considerably less expensive for private ground transportation.
When comparing flights, consider the total cost for everyone traveling. Lower Denver airfares may offset the higher transfer fare, especially for a larger party because the savings apply to every ticket. For a family of four, compare the combined airfare savings with the additional transfer cost in both directions.
Remember that airline tickets are priced per passenger, while private airport transfers are priced per vehicle. Even when Denver costs less overall, consider whether the savings are worth the longer drive, particularly on a short trip.
One positive development for travelers is that the Colorado Department of Transportation has postponed its major Glenwood Canyon Phase 8 construction project until 2028, specifically to avoid overlapping with the Aspen Airport closure. Other roadwork and traffic delays are still possible, so check COtrip for current conditions before traveling.
Frequently Asked Questions About the Aspen Airport Closure
How Long Will Aspen Airport Be Closed in 2027?
Aspen/Pitkin County Airport is scheduled to close on April 4, 2027, at 11 p.m. and reopen on November 19, 2027, at 7 p.m., for about seven and a half months.
Both commercial airline service and general aviation will be suspended during this period. Travelers should monitor official airport announcements and confirm flight schedules with their airlines, especially if traveling near the planned closure or reopening dates.
Will the Aspen Airport Closure Affect Spring Ski Trips?
Yes. Although Aspen Airport closes on April 4, Aspen Mountain is scheduled to remain open through April 18, 2027, meaning the final two weeks of skiing will take place after the airport has shut down.
Visitors planning a late-season ski trip can fly into Eagle or Denver and arrange ground transportation to Aspen.
This is especially important if your vacation overlaps the closure date. You may be able to fly into Aspen before the closure begins but need to depart from Eagle or Denver when it’s time to return home.
Can I Fly Into Eagle and Return Home From Denver?
Absolutely. You don’t need to use the same airport for both legs of your trip.
For example, you might find a convenient arrival flight into Eagle but a better nonstop departure from Denver. Blue Sky Limo can arrange your arrival transfer from Eagle to Aspen and your return transfer from Aspen to Denver, or the reverse.
Each journey is quoted separately. Keep in mind that an early morning flight from Denver may require leaving Aspen or Snowmass very early, so factor the drive into your departure plans.
What Happens if My Airline Changes My Arrival Airport?
If your airline changes your flight to a different airport, contact Blue Sky Limo as soon as possible with your updated flight information.
We can review the new arrival details, confirm vehicle availability, and advise you of any changes to your pickup arrangements or transfer price. An airport change may affect your reservation, and our standard booking and flight-change terms apply.
