Snowmass Village Visitor Information
Just nine miles from Aspen, Snowmass Village offers a refreshing contrast to its celebrity-studded neighbor, trading glamorous nightlife for a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere centered on outdoor adventure. This self-contained mountain community provides everything visitors need from a grocery store and medical clinic to a free transit system and walkable streets while delivering serious winter credentials: 3,342 acres of skiable terrain and 4,406 feet of vertical drop – the most of any US ski resort. The destination shines year-round, with summers featuring world-class hiking and biking, free Thursday-night concerts on Fanny Hill, weekly rodeos from mid-June through August, and the Jazz Aspen/Snowmass festival over Labor Day weekend. At Blue Sky Limo, we’ve taken thousands of guests to Snowmass over the years, and we’ve put together this visitor information guide to share everything we know about making the most of your time here.
Some Apps You’ll Want Before You Arrive
We always tell our guests to download three free apps before they leave for Snowmass. Each one does something different, and together they’ll save you a lot of time and confusion once you’re in the village. The Village Shuttle app handles your local rides, the Transit app tracks the regional buses, including the free one to Aspen, and the Aspen Snowmass app covers everything on the mountain. Having all three on your phone makes a real difference.
Village Shuttle App
Free, on-demand, curb-to-curb rides anywhere within Snowmass Village. Search by address, name, or category and a shuttle comes to you. On-request service runs from 6:35 AM to 12:45 AM, so it’s handy for late dinners too.
Learn More →RFTA Mobile App
Real-time tracking for RFTA regional buses, including the completely free Snowmass-to-Aspen route. Get accurate ETAs, step-by-step navigation, and trip planning so you’re never guessing when the next bus is coming.
rfta.com →Aspen Snowmass App
Everything mountain-related in one place: real-time lift status, interactive trail maps, snow reports, and QR code ticket scanning so you can skip the window lines entirely. Useful year-round for activity planning, dining, and events across all four mountains.
aspensnowmass.com →Understanding the Village Layout
Snowmass Village is organized around three main areas, and the key thing first-timers need to understand is that they’re separated by real elevation changes, not just distance. A colorful gondola connects them, and the village shuttle and free regional buses fill in the gaps, so you won’t be walking everywhere.
Base Village
Base Village sits at the foot of the mountain and is the newest part of Snowmass. This is where you’ll find the Limelight Hotel, shops, restaurants, the ice skating rink, and the Elk Camp Gondola that takes you up the mountain. It’s the most active area of the village, especially on weekends, and the one that feels most like a proper ski resort base.
Snowmass Mall (The Center)
Snowmass Mall, also called the Center, sits uphill from Base Village and is where the practical essentials live. Clark’s Market grocery store, the post office, a gas station, several restaurants, and most of the ski rental shops are all here. The elevation jump between Base Village and the Mall is real, which is exactly why the gondola exists.
Town Park
Town Park sits at the entrance to the village along Brush Creek Road and is home to the Visitor Center, the main free parking area, and the outdoor event space where the Balloon Festival and JazzAspen concerts take place. It’s a good home base if you’re doing a day visit or prefer easy parking.
Connecting the Mall to Base Village is the free Skittles Sky Cab, a colorful gondola nicknamed for its multicolored cabins. It runs daily from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM in winter (and 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM in summer) along Fanny Hill. Now, if someone tells you Snowmass is “walkable,” they’re not wrong, but we should be honest: the uphill stretch between Base Village and the Mall can be a real workout at 8,000 feet. Our advice is to take the gondola going up and enjoy the walk down.
Getting Around Snowmass
One of the best things about staying in Snowmass Village is that you genuinely don’t need a car once you’re here. Between the on-demand village shuttle, the Skittles gondola, and the free regional bus to Aspen, you can get virtually anywhere without touching a steering wheel. The three transit systems work together to cover local rides, the Mall-to-Base Village connection, and the 30-minute trip to downtown Aspen.
| Transit Option | Where It Goes | Cost | How to Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Village Shuttle | Anywhere within Snowmass Village (curb-to-curb) | Free | Village Shuttle App or call (970) 923-2543 |
| Skittles Sky Cab | Base Village to Snowmass Mall | Free | Walk-up, daily 8 AM to 9 PM (winter) |
| RFTA Bus | Snowmass to Aspen (about 30 min) | Free | Transit App or rfta.com |
The RFTA bus to Aspen deserves special mention because it’s one of the most underused perks of staying in Snowmass. The ride is completely free, runs year-round, and takes roughly 30 minutes from the Snowmass Mall to Rubey Park station in downtown Aspen. Many of our guests use it for an evening exploring Aspen’s restaurants and galleries without worrying about driving or parking. You’ll use it once and wonder why you didn’t know about it sooner. Check the RFTA Snowmass Village route schedule for current times.
Parking in Snowmass
If you’re driving to Snowmass, the good news is that the free parking options are excellent and well-connected by shuttle. Town Park Station is the go-to for most day visitors and families. The Brush Creek Intercept Lot off Highway 82 is another solid free option if you’d rather skip village traffic. For those who want to be steps from the lifts, the Base Village Garage charges $9 per hour after the first free hour, with a daily max of $63 (rates jump to $12 per hour during peak holiday periods). In summer, the Base Village Garage is free.
| Lot | Cost | Shuttle | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Town Park Station | Free | Frequent village shuttle | Day visitors, families |
| Brush Creek Intercept | Free | RFTA shuttle to slopes | Avoiding village congestion |

Lost and Found in Snowmass Village
If you’ve lost something on the ski mountain at Snowmass, don’t worry. The Aspen Snowmass mountain Lost and Found handles all items recovered on lifts, slopes, and mountain facilities – you can reach them directly at (800) 525-6200 or through Aspen Snowmass Guest Services. Have a description of the item and the date it was lost, and they’ll check the system for you across all four mountains.
If you lost something in the village itself, that’s handled by a different office entirely. Items left on the street, in a shop, at a restaurant, or anywhere off the mountain should be reported to the Town of Snowmass Village Police Department, reachable at (970) 923-5330, online at tosv.com/157/Lost-Found, or in person at 130 Kearns Road, Snowmass Village, CO 81615.

Where to Rent Ski and Sporting Gear
Snowmass Village has a solid selection of gear rental shops for both winter and summer visitors, so there’s no need to haul equipment on the plane. Four Mountain Sports is the official Aspen Snowmass rental partner with four Snowmass locations, including the Village Mall, Base Village, Two Creeks, and even Elk Camp at the top of the gondola. They cover everything from full ski and snowboard packages to demo skis and professional boot fitting, and in summer, the Base Village location switches to mountain bikes and e-bikes. For a more local experience, Incline Ski and Board Shop has been a Snowmass staple for over 25 years with expert boot fitting and full tuning services. Christy Sports runs a popular Kids Rent Free program that families love, and locally owned Sunset Ski (since 1975) offers hand-tuned equipment and a more personal touch.

Most ski rental shops in Snowmass let you pick up gear the afternoon before your first day on the mountain, usually after 2:00 PM. We always recommend this to our guests. You’ll skip the morning rush entirely and get fitted without the pressure of wanting to be on the slopes. Four Mountain Sports includes free overnight storage with any rental, so your gear will be waiting for you at the base in the morning.
